Hutchinson Contracting helped us with a seismic upgrade of one of our historic downtown properties, completed in tandem with a 17-storey apartment building we developed called the Wedge.

Given the complex and unknown nature of the project, we decided to proceed with a cost-plus arrangement. Hutchinson focused heavily on communication through detailed RFIs and budget/schedule updates tracked against a contingency. Any decisions affecting costs were clearly explained, and alternative solutions were offered at every turn.

Hutchinson understood that this was a business decision and clearly defined what would benefit future leasing versus what could be left for tenant improvements. Since the two projects were in different operational phases, Hutchinson worked closely with consultants and city inspectors to phase the work and maximize workflow integration — even when the order of operations fell outside industry norms.

The quality of work and communication was outstanding, and I will definitely be using them again on future projects.
